How to Create or Write Hub Pages with Google Page Ranking
79How to Create my Hub Pages and Get Google Ranking/
I’ve just noted that my article, “Sailing Down the Danube” is on the first page of Google – number seven in line. I published it yesterday or the day before. Many of the other pieces I’ve written since I joined two weeks also rank in the first two pages. I’ve also reached a point where the browsers give me more hits than hub pages. Although, my numbers are nowhere near worth talking about, I think that the principle is sound. (I hope.) So, with this in mind, I hope that I’m not overstepping what I know in wanting to share with you how to create or write Hub Pages in a few short weeks.
So, here’s how I created a my Hub Page and get a Google Page Ranking.
First I think of a topic or a phrase. Then I put it in the browser to see how many websites there were. Probably a few hundred million. I don't want to bother with anything that had a few million web pages written about it. So, let’s say I put the word, ‘recipe’ in. 175 million hits come up. Of course, you can find this out by simply using Google Keyword Tool which is free to use, or by using a more sophisticated software package like Market Samurai. But sometimes, one gains something by just looking at it. Sometimes, one notes things that the keyword software doesn't see.
Specialize
So I specialize. I might try, “Mushroom Soup” and see if there are fewer hits. There are. There are now 5 million hits. But that’s still too many for me. I'm looking for a topic that won’t give me more than 350,000 hits. So, I take it one step further. I try, “Mushroom Asparagus Soup” and get 311,000 hits. So, now I want something that is likely to get to page one of Google and I try Tasty Mushroom Asparagus Soup. There are four words in 'Tasty Mushroom Asparagus Soup' and this is called a longtail keyword. By typing it into the search engin browser, I notice hardly anyone is using that, so I'm going to use that. Please bear in mind I'm using this as an example. In reality, while tasty mushroom asparagus might come up on the first page of the browser, very few people will key those words into the browser. There has to be a balance beween keywords people are looking for and very few articles written on the topic.
I Add Lots of Love to My Helpful Hub
I Add Color to Make My Hunky Hub Attractive
Specialize Some More
So now I have something I can write about, but I need to find a long tail keyword that I can hang our hub on. So back to the browser for some experimentation.
Tasty Mushroom Asparagus Soup brings up 125,000 hits. I can work with that!
Now Look at the URLs
I note that none of the URLs have the name “Tasty Mushroom Asparagus Soup” so I put that in my URL. Google looks at the words in the URL as well when searching for something, so it's best if your URL uses the same words as the title of your article, and has more similar words and same words in your first paragraph. Oh, dear. Hungry Hub, indeed. The mushroom asparagus soup is getting to me.
Anyway, the browser will give preference to me now - if someone types the words, "Tasty Mushroom Asparagus Soup" into the search engine. Keep in mind that the Search Engine looks at the words in the URL and compares that with the words of your title. It's very important that you should have these two the same.
Keyword Strength
One more thing you need to do before using this longtail keyword in your title is check to see how many people will hit on this if it gets to top of google. You also want to know how much you will be paid. You don't want to be paid 1 cent. So, remember that in this case, I'm just using an example to show you how to get this done. I'm also explaining it very simply so that you understand why you're doing it. Also run the long tail keywords through hub pages and see if anyone else has written on the topic and see what URL they are using. You can't use the same URL that they are.
Google Keyword Tool and Market Samurai
I use both Google Keyword Tool (which is free) and Market Samurai (which is $97) to find out everything I need to know about the keywords I'm using. They will tell me the price of the ads when clicked on, how frequently the ads will be clicked on if the article achieves page one, and whether it will be more easy or more difficult to get to page one of Google. There is a link to Market Samurai on my profile page if you're interested.
Once that’s done I'm ready to go look for information to provide to my hub.
Research!
What I'm looking for here is anything that has the words, “Mushroom Asparagus Soup” that I can use on my site. I go to youtube and look. And there I find it! There are have many videos with the words, “mushroom asparagus’ in them. I'm going to be using one to get the search engines to give preference to my hub because I'm using multi media with the same keywords. .
Reading the HTML In Source Code
I'm familiar with the makeup of a webpage, so I right click on my mouse and open the source code of the first three sites to see what they’ve used for their keywords. If the keywords, “tasty mushroom asparagus soup” aren’t there, I'm definitely onto a good thing. They're not. I look for other things that I can learn from the source code. After all, the particular URL got top of Google, so I can definitely learn something.
Working Hard at Writing my Hopeful Hub
Now It’s Time to Write
So now it’s time to write my article. I try to write between 800 words to 1500 words. I write the best article I can. Here’s another nugget of knowledge. Google is tightening up its search engine parameters. It’s going to eliminate anything that is duplicated. So, sites are increasingly going to be asking for unique material. In one way, that’s good for writers because it’s going to be eliminating those who can’t or won’t write their own material. It is, however, going to sort the sheep from the goats, so quality of writing is going to become increasingly important.
In order for my hub to catch the attention of others, it needs to give something to the reader. That means it must be physically attractive, visually well spaced, information dense, have good grammar which makes for easy reading, and lead readers to want to read more of my work.
Readers only do that when they like what I write. That's always difficult, and truthfully, it's a hit and miss affair. But I make alloances for that. Not every Hub is going to turn out a Hunk.
The advantage of having readers like what I write is that they will backlink to my work. A lot of my work on Associated Content is backlinked. Those pieces that are have been getting steady traffic for four years. So, it’s really worth writing a good piece.
Working Diligently on SEO for My Hardy Hub
Long Tail Keywords
One of the things I focus on while writing is to include the words Tasty Mushroom Asparagus soup in the title. I'm going to say “Tasty Mushroom Asparagus Soup because there are only 125,000 hits for those words. However, I have an advantage because there isn’t an exact string of words saying ‘Mushroom Asparagus Soup’ in another URL. So my hub will be given preference when those words are put in the search engine by some soul wanting muschroom aspargus soup for supper. I will also use those words elsewhere. I will add the word, ‘tasty’ to that string so that there is variation. I will use that phrase three or four times in my Hub and then add it to my keyword section.
I also use words that are related to Mushroom Asparagus soup, like recipe, kitchen, soup bowls, salt, spices, fresh, recipe books, etc. three or four times. Google will respond to these words in two ways. Firstly, my hub will be recognized as authentic. Secondly, they will place appropriate ads on my hunky hub. And that’s what I want! If people are interested in what I have to say, they will be more likely to click on the ad associated with what I'm writing about.
Also, I try to write in a way that uses words that not only persuade very subtly but cater to the senses. I want people to respond both emotionally and intellectually. Actually, that depends on the article! And sometimes it's really hard. Essentially, I have to care about what I write otherwise it doesn't come out right.
Now I Decorate My Hub
And Now It's Time for Mushroom Asparagus Soup!
Decorate
Yes, it needs to be visually pleasing. Wikimedia Commons has free photos because I don't have any that are right for this hub. So does www.freedigitalphotos.net. Flikr also sometimes has photos with creative commons licenses. When you use this work, I give credit to the photographer. You never know where it will lead.I try to, make my hubbly bubbly hub visually pleasing as well as intellectually pleasing.
Ads
Now it’s time to add some adds. I space them nicely and balance the content of what I am saying with what I am selling. If I was talking about something really depressing, a joke book is likely to appeal. If I am writing about something really serious, a lovely luxury item will appear to the senses. If I'm writing about something that is highly desirable, then that’s the product that I try to find on Amazon. Actually, I generally check that before I do the honrable Hub.
Checking Ad Placement
Now I use preview to see where my ads are. The top right of the first paragraph contains the rectangular Google advertisement. See where it ends, I drop down a paragraph, and then cut that text box right there. That allows Google to insert a second text right below the box. Remember, I want Google to put their ads as near the top as possible.
Keywords
Under the keyword section on my right,I check all the phrases that are related to my title and enter them. I don’t bother with single keywords unless I have a really unique topic that nobody else has. I use phrases, preferably three or four words long that I have researched and checked.
Summary
I uncheck the box and write my own words over here. I include, “tasty mushroom asparagus soup,” in this box. Google scans the meta tags.
Final Finish for Hunky Hub
Finally, I check to see if there’s sufficient information to keep people reading. According to Google Analytics 25% of my web traffic is spending six minutes on my hubs. That’s good. Well, for me, anyway. I don't know if it's good for anyone else. Maybe, not
Adjustments
I will need to adjust over the next few days by constantly seeing what the Google traffic is doing. Even if I've only scored one hit, Google has found my huggable hub. That’s good news. I click on the ‘stats’ button for that article, then go to keywords. That will give me the phrase or keyword that brought that browser to my hopeful Hub. I work with that! Adjust! Adjust! Adjust!
So, now I've created my hub page and hope to get google ranking.
So, now I'm ready to save my hunky hub and get a google ranking. And as a reward, I’m going to make the mushroom asparagus thingie for dinner...

I tried the keyword "Mushroom Asparagus Soup" and got list of 328000 searches and am sorry to say that your page was not available.
But you have provided fantastic tips to get more traffic with google ranking..
Hey Sophia. I like your writing style.
you should check out Google's advanced search operators for a better picture of whether you can rank for a term or not, by how many sites are actively competing for it, as the overall page numbers are ridiculously unreliable.
ie try this search: http://www.google.com/search?q=allintitle:tasty+mu

keep up the good work.
You did your research well, Sophia. Congrats on getting on page one.
Hi again. Yes indeed, Ibiza in sunny Spain :)
and Samurai is a very good tool, lots of SEOs I know swear by it, but possibly a bit above what's needed at hubber level? the advanced search operators would have done you for a while I think (the manual version)
fantastic information! Great hub!
Now that Tasty Mushroom Asparagus Soup has 125,001 entries, can I rewrite your very amusing and informative article and hope to have the same results? Just kidding! I'll be original and do Yummy Asparagus Mushroom Soup. Seriously - thanks for introducing me to Hubpages.
Sophie- you say you can work with 125,000 hits for your soup recipe-that still sounds a lot to me. Better to get below 40,000 if you can what do you say?
Thanks! Very helpful! :)
Fantastic info - thanks
Hi Sophia, useful hub about keyword research. Here is my one to find these niche keywords

Please don't ask me about my english skill :(
Wow. I think I need to take notes! I saw your post on the forums about your 30,000 mark (congratulations!) and have been reading your hubs. I want to be a sponge, learning by osmosis...
I think I need to do this when my toddler is not wanting to help me type. Cross-referencing seems to be key in driving traffic to your pages.
Great work figuring this out. I'll keep an eye on more hints in your hubs. Thanks for sharing! ;)
Thank you Sophia, i have gained some more knowledge as a newbie and will be using your tips!! great job on your 30,000 views keep up the good work!
wow I love this hub, I am printing out and using it to help my hubs, thanx a mil!!!!!!!!
Great hub! Voted up!
A very nice explanation. Thank you.
Extremely understandable and concise hub. It was extremely helpful. Thank you!
great hub i enjoyed reading it
Thans a lot Sophia for providing such an informative article on Hub-page. I learnt a lot from this hub. You would be kind enough if you write an informative hub about How to Monetize a hub!
Thank you for sharing this, it is always useful to read information like this just to solidify it in my own mind. The only difference that I personally feel is that I get better results from hubs of 700-900 words. My longer hubs don't perform so well, maybe I am just a waffler ;)
Thanks for sharing
No problem, I did indeed and I found that short hubs with a question as a title tend to do better if they are shorter. Whereas longer guide style hubs tend to do better towards the higher end of the word count, which I guess makes sense. I haven't taken into consideration the topic however I imagine this does hold true, for example my quantum physics hubs would not read well much shorter as it is quite a complex subject and requires a lot of explanation. Id be interested in your findings with the greater number of hubs you have :D Glad to hear this is doing well :D
So if your hub is front page material is it going to show up there the first day you publish it or does it take some time for google to recognize? I'm currently on the second page for most of the keywords I have used so does this mean there's no front-page hope?
Great hub I learned a lot thank you!
Ok Sophia thank you for sharing your knowledge. Congrats on reaching 10,000 hits a day on ONE hub! Hopefully I will get there someday! :)
Very useful and interesting. I have bookmarked this and intend to follow some of the points you made. Thanks for sharing.
Great hub, very useful! I need to use keyword tools more often.
