Dell Computer Service Review
Why I Continue to Buy Dell Computers. Review
I’ve been using Dell computers for a while now. They are not the only computers I’ve been using. I’ve used an Apple Macbook, an HP something, an IBM Thinkpad, and I’m not quite sure what else. All of them had issues – every computer does. I think I’ve only been really mad with Dell once, and that I won’t forget. This techie obviously didn’t know what he was doing. I wanted to reformat my disk and didn’t want to lose my emails. I phoned to ask them how to do that and he completely erased them. I lost the email addresses of a few people that I lost contact with as a result. For the rest, let me tell you why I keep returning to Dell.

No Need for Heavy Duty Computer
Firstly, for the most part, I think I use my computer the same way a lot of people do. I write, do some graphic art, play games, read the news, and watch a movie or six. So when I purchase a computer, so long as a computer can do those things, and most of them can, I’m happy with any computer. Of course, I have a couple of things that I personally like – like it’s light to carry and it looks pretty. Forgive me, but as an artistic person, the aesthetics matter! I currently have a red computer.
Taking Care of My Computer
I’ve been online since late 1994 so I learnt the hard way about viruses. So I save most of my work on an external hard drive and have antiviral software (I avoid Nortons and McAffee like poison as they are the anti-viral software packages that most people write viruses for). I’m also increasingly thinking that I would like an online back up system that just saves my work every day. The bottom line is that while computers do break down, and computers do get viruses, as any sensible person would, I try to avoid that by taking the above precautions. I also do frequent reinstalls so that my computer remains fast. I also always buy the service contract. It has been worth every penny of it throughout the years.
When a Computer Breaks Down: That's When You Need Service!
Of course, it’s inevitable that a computer will take leave of its bits and bytes at some point. They’re manmade electronic pieces of wizardry and anything from a virus to a fleck of dust can hamper them on an inconvenient day. That’s why good service is vital, and that’s why I keep going back to Dell.
Dell Service Through the Years
In the years that I have bought computers from Dell, here are some of the things they have done for me.
- They have sent a techie to my home when I didn’t sign up or pay for that service. Why? Because I’d sent my computer to them. They’d missed something, and I was on a deadline for a story. The techie came in, changed my motherboard, did a reinstall, and I was able to get my work done on time. I didn’t pay a single thing.
- Another time, I was convinced that the operating system had a bug or something and that was the reason the upgrade didn’t work. After two or three attempts to find out why the original operating system wasn't working, they just gave me the new operating system gratis.
- Yet another time, when I called about when my next payment for service insurance was due, they gave me two lots of insurance completely free of charge for the next two or three years. That saved me a good $400!
- On several occasions when I’ve had to send my computer in, and I’ve expressed the thought that I couldn’t lose a week or two, my computer has gone, been fixed, and come back in three days.
The bottom line is that I call this good service! And that is why I keep returning to Dell. I know that I can rely on getting my computer taken care of.
Will there be complaints by some? Of course! No company has 100% happy customers. However, I have always had excellent service from the Dell Technical Department and until that stops, I guess I feel safer buying from them. That doesn't mean that I haven't been frustrated, at times, dealing with them. I have. But then I've been just as frustrated with many other computer companies. I recall calling a computer company about fifteen years ago and telling them that the keyboard didn't work. They then asked me if I had switched it on and if I was actually putting my fingers to the keyboard because computers did not type on their own.
So, basically, as a realist, I accept that computers will always give problems, that techie departments will always be difficult, but I will continue to buy my computers from Dell because, overall, I've had excellent service!

Hmmm, this was interesting to read as I seem to remember the company having a bad rep years ago, seems they have managed to more than turn things around.
Thanks for SHARING.
