McDonalds Career Jobs and Pay
72Careers, Pay, Reviews, and Benefits at McDonalds
So you’re stuck for a job and you might as well take anything in order to pay the rent and feed yourself. After a year, things look no better. The question is, can you make a career and McDonalds and if so, what will it involve, what will you earn, and what are the benefits.
McDonald Franchise Owners
More than half of McDonald owners started off as staff in their food outlets. This shows that there is an upwardly mobile path that is very effective. And more than 75% of those that went on to own their own franchises were McDonald Restaurant Managers. Again, that shows that there’s a very definite career path in this company.

Applying for the Job
You can apply either on line or go to one of their food outlets and ask for an application form, which can then be returned to the same food outlet. If you’re lucky, the manager might be in. If he is, ask to speak to him as people have been hired immediately. The leading question is if you have experience. Find a way of saying yes.

I would just like to chuck in a comparison here in terms of paid vacation. In South Africa, it is mandatory for all companies to give three weeks paid leave by law. In England, it is mandatory for all companies to give four weeks paid leave by law. In Europe, it is mandatory for all companies to give six weeks paid leave by law. That is from day one of employment!

I was a trainee then assistant manager at McDonalds in Sydney way back in 1979. I didnt last long only five month's I found being on call seven days a week a bit much and the environment & culture not to my liking
McDonald's wouldn't hire either my husband or myself last year. They said we were over-qualified or didn't meet their management requirements. We asked for a detailed explanation of that, they wouldn't give one. I'm thinking we were either not old enough or not young enough but definitely age was a factor. We've both been in many years of project management so we didn't see where we didn't fit into their management program that we both applied for.

I just started working at McDonald's and I think the pay is ridiculous for how much the company makes. But I can't get a job anywhere else. It'll be easier to get a better job after I work here.

Maybe one of the best thing about working for Mac Donalds is that when you apply for your next job and put it on your CV they can tell you are willing to 'graft' i.e. work hard.
In the UK even college and uni. graduates or students can end up working a stint at Mac Donalds to bridge the gap financially until a career opportunity comes along.
