Plenty of Fish Largest FREE Dating Site in the World Still Growing. 135 Million Visitors. 26 Million Members
76Plenty of Fish is the world’s largest free dating site for singles, with 135 million visitors through the years, and 26 million current members, and it’s still growing. That’s probably because it’s a free dating site and, in addition, the site is well designed with tests indicating who men and women are compatible with, forums for every type of conversation, mechanisms to show who is interested in who, and, of course, unpaid moderators who ensure that everything is going nicely. Naturally, there are success stories where couples get married and live happily, for a while, at least. So, why wouldn’t you use Plenty of Fish as a Premier Dating Site?
When a Dating Site is Free, It Attracts More than the Normal Number of Unfortunates
Yes, it’s perfectly true. The more one pays to be a member of a dating site, or a singles club, the more likely there are to be people who aren’t on the take. This doesn’t mean that there aren’t wonderful people at Plenty of Fish (Sure, there are). It just means that there are more likely to be those that sincere singles might prefer to avoid. Many have left the site in distress. So, sometimes, it pays to join a more exclusive dating site.
Dating Nightmares that Happen on Plenty of Fish (and some other Dating Sites)
The dating nightmares below happen on every dating and singles website. They are not unique to Plenty of Fish. However, they are more plentiful for the simple reason that there are more fish in the sea here, and the fact that it’s a free dating site, means that there’s no cost to one. Unhappily, it's also the newbies that get hit on first. There's a veritable ocean of sharks waiting for the photos of newbies to appear so that they can hit on them first. It's been said that the best way to handle a site like Plenty of Fish is not to post a photograph for a couple of weeks until the system has forgotten that one is new.
Photos are not up to date.
The number of men and women who put of photos that are ten or twenty years old is enormous. This is off putting to those that put up recent photos and suddenly find themselves with someone who doesn’t in the least look like their photo. Those that do this seem to think in two ways. The first is that they have such loveable personalities that their date will overlook the fact that they lied about their photo (a defect in character) or they don’t care as they only expect there to be one date, and that’s all they want.

Lies about age.
Enormous numbers of both genders lie about their age. For some this is obvious as the photograph looks way more mature than someone of the age claimed. Or, in most events, they’ve just put in an outdated photograph. Again, this is most disconcerting to those singles who are sincerely wanting to find a lifetime partner, or who are looking for marriage. Those that lie about their age also have several motives. They believe that a certain age group will be deterred from going out with them because they are older. This is true. Some young women don’t’ want to date men who are twenty or thirty years older than they are. And some older women do not want to date men who are twenty or thirty years younger than they are. Also, sometimes, just taking a few years off one’s age makes one sound younger and more attractive, thereby ensuring more opportunities for dates. So, in order to get around this, both men and women lie about their age.

Physical Attributes – Weight, Height, Hair Color, etc.
It’s quite amazing the number of men and women who will lie about their weight, their height, or their hair color, or even if they have hair! Once again, all of this is done in the name of getting a date. For many men, getting a date equates to getting laid. That is their prime motive. They seem to figure that it’s not so much that their date won’t notice the extra weight, the lack of height, the gray or lacking hair, etc, but that their date won’t mind – because they have such a sparkling personality and are such nice people. It doesn’t seem to occur to them that their date might think that lying about these things show an ugliness of character and they won’t be interested.
Few Can Write Grammatically – Low Education Level
Yes, it’s a dating site, and there are those that willl tell you that their grammatical incompetence is intentional, and that it’s ‘informal’ writing. There is no such thing as ‘informal’ writing. One is either semi-literate or one writes correctly. I simply cannot visualize being able to write correctly, and then purposely making grammatical errors so that one appears to be writing informally! For those who are highly educated, this is probably not the best choice in a dating site. Rather pay for something and find people who have put in the time to be sufficiently educated to be able to write grammatically.
Upgraded Services If You Pay
Recently, Plenty of Fish decided to make some money. There have been plenty of complaints. While it would have been disastrous to stop full services to everybody on the dating site as most singles would simply have vanished, Plenty of Fish did something else. They made it impossible to see if the emails of daters had been read. So, it has become difficult to figure out if one has received new email. Marcus Frind, the CEO, of Plenty of Fish, started the site on his own and ran it for many years just on his own. Despite the many millions on his website, he currently only has 22 members of staff. Prior to starting POF, he was a Google Adsense millionaire.
The Verdict
Plenty of Fish became the biggest dating site in the world because it was free. This enabled the riff raff factor to be higher than it is for paid websites. The advantage of being on a dating website with more than a million people is that dating is a numbers game. Eventually, if one keeps meeting new people, one will meet someone. However, because this site is used by those with less than honorable intentions, it’s also takes a lot of wading through deep waters to find the person of one’s dreams. My personal opinion is that because everything happens in cycles, with the new payment system, Plenty of Fish, the world’s largest dating site, will no longer grow so quickly, and will begin to lose numbers.

I never heard of this site before. Interesting.
Honestly I'm sure your intentions on this hub was nice but i feel like you just insulted many people and I disagree with you, as far as pictures that's general on every website but not everyone wants to pay for a site to begin with unless they have no time to wait but if you take your time you can find love anywhere.. People find love on facebook and it's free but are they mainly low life? There's low life everywhere but who are we to judge?
well i was on that site and i've never had any problems before, and i have read some reviews some were happy some werent but i took the chance anyways and i've been happy. None of my friends have complained either but besides the point i guess i just disagree about the low life part and i find it offensive because some people cant afford to join paying sites but besides the point lets just agree to disagree... I hope you dont find me mean in any way thats defintely not my intent.
As with any free site, the number of scam artist and low life people grow exponentially. I published an article on Craigslist dating, which basically came up with the same conclusions. Your article is well written and very informative. How did you do your research?

Interesting. I'm not single or dating but found this article fascinating.
I can't stand it when people comment using text speech or jibberish in social network sites. I sometimes tell them I can't understand a thing they are saying. I think they think it makes them sound cool. It doesn't.
